I am so excited to have Justina Page sharing her twin birth testimony with us today. If you have a story you would like to share here at Redeeming Childbirth, click here to submit your story or simply add your link at the end of this article.
My testimony is to the end that we have a great opportunity to glorify God in how we carry ourselves during pregnancy and in childbirth.
It was my fifth pregnancy, by that time I was a mother of four boys: Jonathon, Joseph, Caleb, and Daniel. I was also a homeschool mom, Sunday School teacher, and coordinated many activities for homeschoolers. My husband and I were on the way to my ninth month check up, which happened to be the day before a major event I put on for the Southeast Texas Homeschoolers called the Nomad Obstacle Course.
We had dropped the boys off at my best friend’s house for a birthday party for her daughter. When I walked in the door, Mickey (my midwife) looked alarmed. She motioned me over quickly to the table and began a silent, anxious assessment. I timidly asked her if anything was wrong. She responded by saying, “Do you hear that?” I answered quickly, “Yes. It’s a heartbeat.” She moved the stethoscope to another side of my belly, “hear that?” I answered confused, “Yes…a heartbeat…isn’t that what we want to hear.” Her response nearly caused my husband to collapse. “Mrs. Page,” she said, “you are having twins.”
For a few heartbeats I was speechless. Then the excitement kicked in for both of us. She then explained that the babies must have been one in front of the other and decided to reveal themselves at the ninth month by sitting side by side. She gave me an ultimatum: I know you like to have your children at home, but twins can present difficulties. However, because of the faith that I have seen in you and your family, I will be willing to believe in your God if you do. I was stunned. I had never considered that my faith had an impact on her.
What choice did I have?
It was no time to doubt Jesus when He had set up a perfect scenario to draw someone to Him, so for the first time, I had an ultrasound, because she wanted to see how they were positioned. A week later, on Sunday, May 11, I found myself at home giving birth. My best friend and the church nurse (who we lovingly called our personal midwife) were there with Mickey and my husband for a prayer covering.
Amos Beniah Page was birthed first, then I began to notice the look of concern on the faces in the room. They didn’t want to voice it, but the second twin was breech. The midwife pulled my husband into the front room and disclosed to him that if she couldn’t get the baby turned soon we would have to call an ambulance.
My husband came in and explained the situation to me. We both agreed, along with our prayer covering, that we would like to give God a chance to intervene first. Mickey stepped back a bit to allow them to surround me. A nervous sweat was on her forehead. I asked God to manifest Himself to her and show His power. As we were praying, my whole body was lifted off the bed as if someone was under me and pushed me in the back. I could fill the baby inside was flipped. Mickey’s eyes were round as saucers. I told her: check me now.
Benjamin Josiah Page was birthed within seconds of that flip. It was an awesome, safe delivery, thanks to the God of my salvation. The following week, Mickey asked how she could know the God who came through for me on that Mother’s Day morning. She said she needed Him in her practice. By the grace of God, she has Him until this day.
May God Bless You Sisters,
I just love Justina’s heart in sharing her birth testimony with us all. And I hope and pray you hear it too. Some of you may think, oh that was foolish. She should have gone to the hospital. But I would challenge you not to judge. Justina and her husband were in alignment with one another and the Lord clearly opened their eyes to see something we all to quickly forget to notice. An opportunity for God to show His power to someone seeking. Her faith and trust in Him is admirable.
God may not have the same story written in His book for you, as far as circumstances go, but I believe wholeheartedly that He desires us all to be just as aware of our opportunity for witnessing faith, trust, love, and confidence in the Lord… in all circumstances, wherever we are, to all who are put in our paths. What a gift to participate in bringing forth life with God… and twins nonetheless. But then for the Lord to choose Justina and her family to participate with Him in bringing forth life through harvesting an eternal faith in a sister?! And through the witnessing of their faith during the pregnancy and childbirth of these sweet blessings from above?! I am in awe of His goodness. Aren’t you? Thank you for sharing your story Justina. ~Angie
